Bad Family relationships

The family unit is a profound multifunctioning institution that serves as a foundation of stability and unity. However a foundation that is built on heredity, parentage, and birth right, and supported by domestic, marital, and ancestral unity, is exposed to the pressures and strain that lead to broken family relationships.

Severed relationships among family members are cross-cultural happenings that date back thousands of years. The victims feel a sense of loss and disorder and the effect is especially poignant during important celebratory events, dates, and times of year.

Major life changing events such as marriage, divorce, births, deaths, illnesses and conflicts can trigger divisions in the family.

Islamic tradition and the Quran place great emphasis on the importance of family ties. It is in fact compulsory to sustain the ties of kinship, and haram (forbidden) to server them. The maintenance of kinship ties has great effect on achieving social acceptance and collaboration within the Muslim community.

Family relationships concern tangible matters (generosity, wealth distribution etc.), and intangible issues (directing what is good and forbidding what is un-Islamic or evil).

Many Muslims believe that breaking family ties is a sin against Allah’s wishes for the family.

The Quran warns against breaking or severing family ties and many believe the Quranic text places a curse on those that sever ties with their family.

“So would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on earth and sever your (family) relationship? Those (who do so) are the ones that Allah has cursed, so He deafened them and blinded their vision”. (Quran 47:22-23)
