Everything about incest in The Quran
The Islamic definition of incest falls under the Sharia Law classification of any familial relative with whom marriage is forbidden.
These familial relatives are known as ‘Mahram’, meaning ‘unmarriageable’, or ‘not marriageable’.
The status of mahram is also a shared circumstance; when a woman is mahram (not marriageable) to a man, that man is also mahram to the woman.
A woman’s scope of unmarriageable men is grouped into 3 main categories.
A man’s range of unmarriageable women is derived in the similar manner.
Blood Mahrams: Parents, grandparents, all distant parental ancestorsSiblings, children of siblings, all descendants of siblings Children, grandchildren, all descendants of childrenSiblings of parents, parents grandparents, all ancestors of parents
In-Law Mahrams: Father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-lawStepfather, stepmother (if the marriage is consummated)Stepson, stepdaughter (if the marriage is consummated.
Rada Mahrams: (foster relatives of the same wet nurse):Everything concerning blood mahrams applies in this case.
Mahrams for men: Mother, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, grand-aunt, niece, grandniece, father’s wife, stepdaughter, mother-in-law, his wet-nurse mother and all other wet-nurse relatives that correspond to the above-mentioned blood relative.
* The Quran references a class of women unlawful for men to marry (haram). These women ( your father’s ex-wife, sister’s daughter etc.), are considered mahram. (Quran 4:22-23).
