Muslim Duties

Everything about the duties of a Muslim in The Quran

Everything about the duties of a Muslim in The Quran

There are five commitments to Islam that a Muslim must perform for the duration of their life. These compulsory obligations are recognized as the Five Pillars of Islam: collectively shaping the foundation of Muslim life.

These commitments consist of,

Faith (Shahadah), the declaration that there is no God but Allah, and that the prophet Muhammad is his messenger.

Prayer (Salat), five prayers conducted at particular times of the day whilst facing the holy city Mecca.

Charity (zakah or zakat), allows for the more affluent Muslims to show concern for those in need and are required to make donations to provide support for the underprivileged in the local community.

The fourth pillar of Islam is fasting. Muslims fast during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and holiest period of the Islamic faith. The Fasting continues from sunrise to sunset and occupies one lunar month.

The final principal is pilgrimage (Hajj in Arabic). During the hajj season, Muslims journey to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia where the holy city of Mecca is located. The physically weak or short of money are exempt from making the pilgrimage to the Makkah province however the physically and financially able, must make the hajj at least once in their lifetime.

For Shia Muslims the pillars of Islam are more conceptual and seek deep contemplation, of which are;

Tawhid (the unity with Allah).

Adl (the divine justice of Allah).

Nubuwwah (Prophet- hood).

The Imamah (leadership of mankind).

The Me’ad (the Resurrection).
