Everything about sins in The Quran

Everything about sins in The Quran

The human nature has many qualities. Each of these virtues and traits has the potential to benefit humanity and therefore the human nature is fundamentally good.

Nonetheless human beings do have the ability to sin largely and without end. The human conscience is the instinctive way of recognising transgressions based upon a person’s moral code, in this case, the Islamic faith, and making the right choices to curb sinful behaviour and to live a righteous life.

A sin is an act, exploit or deed that is contrary to the will of Allah. Human beings are to worship and serve Allah. Islam is the submission to the will of Allah and following the commandments of Allah is the meaning of Islam. If a person disregards the will of Allah and deliberately acts against these wishes, then the person is committing a sin.

There are seven major sins in Islamic tradition called the ‘pernicious seven’ or ‘deadly seven’, based on hadith. These seven sins are considered kaba'ir (meaning the great or major one’s) and is used to indicate the serious evils and severe wrongdoings.

"Avoid the seven noxious things: associating anything with Allah, magic, killing one whom Allah has declared inviolate without a just case, consuming the property of an orphan, devouring usury, turning back when the army advances, and slandering chaste women who are believers but indiscreet."

Many religious clerics and public speakers point out that Islam's major sins are greater in number based on the definition of major sins as ‘acts which are clearly forbidden in the Holy Quran’, by ‘the Prophet Muhammad’, and for which there is a ‘hadd punishment’ (penalty specified in the Quran).

Based on the above definitions, the list of major sins can be up to 70 in total.

Minor sins are acts which are displeasing to Allah but for which no specific punishment or strict caution has been issued.
