Sex addiction is very often compared to drug and substance abuse because the common denominator identified by the medical industry is the euphoric effect caused by the release of chemical substances.

With regard to sex addiction, the person is addicted to the rush of powerful biological hormones released during the sexual act or acts. In extreme cases addicts are willing to have casual sex with friends, co-workers, employers, employees, strangers, and even close family members. Sex addiction can include the viewing of pornographic materials, excessive masturbation, the use of phone sex interaction, and the visiting of prostitutes.

Like all cases of addiction, there is a real possibility that the addict could lose control, and the sexual activity could develop into something risky, unsafe, unhygienic,painful, disturbing, and even diseased.

Sexual overindulgence and addiction in the Bible receive the same treatment as all other addictions that plague the mind and pollute the body.

“…Out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person”. (Mark 7:20-23)

Sex is a powerful force. Its ability to take hold of a person’s thoughts, provoke physical conflicts, encourage deception, devastate the sanctity of marriage, and even spread ghastly diseases, is treated in the Bible, as a very serious threat. Sexual immorality, as it’s called in Scripture, is forbidden.

“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body”       (Corinthians 6:18)
