Everything about suicide in The Bible

Everything about suicide in The Bible

Biblical chapters and verse proclaim that the human being is above all other works of God.

Inspiration leads to creation, and we remain the greatest of all the creations because we were not inspired by the image of nature, or the beasts, or the elements, but in the image of the God of all things.

There are ten very clear commandments contained within the Bible and the words “Thou shalt not kill” cannot be made any clearer. We are created free to inhabit the green earth, the blue oceans, and the skies above and to subdue the animal kingdom, but we ourselves are not subdued. We are free to choose our paths, from the caring of bodies to the treatment of others. The world is populated by all manner of free peoples. There is life and death here.

“Be not overly wicked, neither be a fool. Why should you die before your time?”  (Ecclesiastes 7:17)

‘Life’ is treated as the most precious commodity in Holy scripture and nothing in this world is worth more and has more value than the life you are given. The essence of being alive, the value of living and even the simple act of breathing the air around you are a sensation to be cherished every single day.

The appreciation of life is celebrated (birthdays, songs, prayer, etc.), but the taking of life, even as an act of suicide under the weight of despair, is considered the destruction of that most precious commodity, and the punishment is severe.

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For Gods, temple is Holy, and you are that temple”. (Corinthians 3:16-17)

Readers of the bible are called upon to value their lives and the lives of others, to never give up their precious lives to misery, depression, and despair.

“We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed”.      (Corinthians 4:8-9)
